Personal ministry with Christ is our essential source for ministry. Closeness to Christ creates strong character and takes us to the center of God’s redemptive activity among His people. Ability to preach, knowledge of the Bible and theology, and even ministerial experience are not sufficient. A call to ministry can accomplish incredible achievement beyond our wildest dreams because of a personal relationship between God and a Pastor. Although a call has far-reaching congregational and social dimensions, it begins as a private dialogue; an alive, life-changing encounter between God and the minister-to-be. Even though it may be later identified with a time and place dimension where God met the prospective Pastor, the call is really a holy meeting, an adventure with deity, an “aha” moment, an insistent urgency, a summons to active duty and an extravagant invitation combined. But divine enablement is promised, and we need to keep plugged into it.
